Stadium Events has officially taken the crown as the most expensive video game ever sold. A sealed copy of the NTSC version of Stadium Events sold on ebay for $41,300!
This is more expensive than Nintendo Campus Challenge which sold for $20,100 or Nintendo World Championships Gold which sold for $21,400. The two previous record prices.
The seller of the game lives in Olathe, Kansas and had purchased the game brand new at a Richmond Gordmans, a department store in the midwest, for $29.99. They never opened it after they realized it needed a power pad to play. They never got around to returning it either (maybe the smartest decision they ever made).
The seller had a total return of 137,568% or 37.9% per year on this "mistaken" Stadium Events purchase. That's a better return than Apple, Microsoft, or almost any other investment you could make at the same time.

15 Rare Nintendo NES Games | Most Expensive NES Games

Some of the most rare and expensive games ever are from the Nintendo NES. Below is a list of the rarest and most expensive Nintendo games and what makes them so valuable.
The list is ranked by highest recorded sales price per game.
Stadium Events
New Price: $41,300 Used Price: $1,000An auction for a sealed copy of Stadium Events set a record for the highest priced game ever sold. The game was released in a limited number of stores in 1987, but Nintendo bought the rights to this Bandai game so they could release it as World Class Track Meet. This is considered to be the rarest of the licensed NES games with only an estimated 200 copies in existance. Don't confuse this with the PAL version (see below) which is not as rare but looks very similar. You can use a Stadium Events version guide to tell them apart.

Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991
New Price: NA Used Price: $20,100In 1991 Nintendo held a video game tournament at college campuses across the country. For the competition they created a cartridge which had three games on it, Super Mario 3, Dr. Mario, and PinBot, and a 6 minute time limit. Only one of these is known to exist and was found at a ex-Nintendo employee's garage sale. The game sold on ebay this past summer for $20,100.

Nintendo World Championships Gold
New Price: NA Used Price: $18,000Considered to be the "Holy Grail" of game collecting by many, it is no longer the most expensive video game or even the most expensive Nintendo game. Nintendo gave away 26 of these gold cartridges after the 1990 Nintendo World Championships (see below). The game cartridge has Super Mario, Tetris, and Rad Racer on one cartridge and gives players a combined score for all three games after playing for six minutes.

Nintendo World Championships Gray
New Price: NA Used Price: $5,500The gray version of Nintendo World Championships is not as rare as the Gold version, but still sells for more than $5,000. Nintendo held a video game competition in 1990 to determine the best Nintendo players in three different age groups. The winner in each age group and each city was given a gray cartridge as a prize so only 90 of these exist today.

Myriad 6-in-1
New Price: $5,000 Used Price: $985Myriad 6 in 1 is a collection of six games on one cartridge. Myriad bought all the remaining 6-in-1 cartridges from Caltron (see below) as they were going out of business. Myriad then changed the sticker on the front and added a unique serial number to each cartridge. The game was unlicensed by Nintendo and there are thought to be fewer than 100.

Stadium Events PAL Version
New Price: $4,000 Used Price: $990The European version of Stadium Events is not as rare as its American counterpart, but is still an expensive NES game. The PAL version was released in multiple languages so some versions have English wording, while others have German or even Dutch. The game isn't as rare because Nintendo never recalled it like they did with the NTSC version.

Caltron 6-in-1
New Price: $1,775 Used Price: $860Caltron 6-in-1 is an unlicensed game for the NES and is notoriously bad. All six games are of very low quality and this helped limit the number of games sold. Caltron Industries shut-down as a video game publisher after this game came out and it is the only game they ever released. The six games on the cartridge Cosmos Cop, Adam and Eve, Magic Carpet 1001, Balloon Monster, Porter, and Bookyman, are all take offs on other popular NES games.

Peek-A-Boo Poker
New Price: NA Used Price: $1,300Peek-A-Boo Poker is another unlicensed game for the NES, but it is also adult rated. The game is basically strip poker on the NES with female characters on the game removing clothes if you win. The game was made by Panesian, the same publishers who made Bubble Bath Babes and Hot Slots, which are two more pornographic games you will see lower on this list.

Bubble Bath Babes
New Price: NA Used Price: $725Bubble Bath Babes is an adult version of Tetris with bubbles. You arrange bubbles of similar colors so they are touching and they disappear. The game was produced in very limited quantities and were sold in VHS style boxes instead of the usual NES game box. Very few of these ever sold because it was only sold through Video stores, and not game stores.

Cheetahmen II
New Price: $870 Used Price: $650Cheetahmen II is a sequel that was never officially released. It was completed by it's developer but never sold. In 1997 all 1,500 of the games were found in a warehouse and sold in the secondary market. The game has so many bugs that it considered almost unplayable. In-spite of its poor quality it will still fetch more than $600 on a regular basis.

Hot Slots
New Price: NA Used Price: $550Hot Slots has you play a slot machine on the NES but at certain times during the game pixelated woman without much on will show up on the screen to say something. The game was only sold through mail-order to video stores and for obvious reasons was never licensed by Nintendo.

Punch-Out Special Edition
New Price: NA Used Price: $415A gold version of Punch-Out for the NES. 10,000 copies of the game were made and given out as part of a Nintendo Golf competition in Japan. The game is for the Famicom in Japan. The special editon was actually released before any other version of Punch-out and doesn't even have Mr. Dream or Mike Tyson as the final fight. Super Macho Man is the last character in the game.

Mr. Gimmick
New Price: NA Used Price: $200Mr. Gimmick was came out in Japan as Gimmick and Europe as Mr. Gimmick. The European version is the rarer of the two. The game plays like a traditional platformer but is notoriously difficult. The Electronic Gaming Monthly reviewed the game in their American magazine so it was thought it might come out in the US, but the game was never released stateside.

Flintstones Surprise at Dino Peak
New Price: NA Used Price: $170Surprise at Dino Peak was the second Flintstones game for the NES but it came out three years after the Super Nintendo released. Most gamers had moved away from the original Nintendo so the game sold poorly, which makes it quite rare today.

Devil World
New Price: NA Used Price: $150Devil World was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and published by Nintendo, but is still a rare game. Devil World plays very similarly to PacMan but depicted the Devil and other religious symbols. Because of this Nintendo never released the game in North America, which makes it the only game designed by Miyamoto that didn't come out in the USA.

Save $32,000 on Sealed Stadium Events
Earlier we posted about a sealed Stadium Events on ebay, it is going for $39,900 right now. This auction has received tons of publicity and been written about it hundreds of video game blogs because it is new.
The auction title states specifically that it is "Sealed" & "New" and even uses a sub headline to say a second time that it is sealed. Six letters S-E-A-L-E-D might be worth $32,000.
There is another Sealed Stadium Events that is on ebay right now too but hasn't gotten as much publicity. The listing doesn't say "New" or "Sealed" in the title but the pictures all show it is new and the description says its new too. AND it is the NTSC version.

I'm sure bidding will increase on this second auction too but I bet it will end lower than the first one because it doesn't advertise what it is. I almost feel bad for the seller.
UPDATE: THIS EBAY LISTING IS PROBABLY FRAUDULENT

Nintendo Media Summit 2010

Nintendo had a Media Summit today to announce their release schedule for the first half of 2010. Nintendo is one of the top publishers when it comes to their games maintaining resale value.
Here are some of the games announced:
- Monster Hunter Tri (April 20)
- Bundle w/ Classic Controller - $59.99
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 (May 23) - See trailer below
- Sin and Punishment 2 (June 7)
- Metroid: Other M (June 27)

Nintendo also announced a new piece of hardware in the Nintendo DSi XL. It will be priced at $189.99 and feature screens that are 93% larger than the DS Lite.
Though this is hardly new considering it's been out in Japan for a few months, it's nice to know when it's coming to North America.

Welcome to Violence - Sega Wii Bundle

Sega is releasing a mature games bundle for Australian Wii's. It's called "Welcome to Violence" and includes "The Conduit", "House of the Dead Overkill", and "MadWorld".
The price is right too. Only $110 Australian dollars which is about what a new Xbox 360 or PS3 game costs in the land down under.
I played all three of these games when they released stateside but any Australian readers out there should definitely pick this up if they haven't tried these games yet.
If Sega does release this in the US I might be tempted to buy it because of the cool name and box art. Plus bundles make great collectibles.

User Survey: PC and Mac Games
We recently added a small selection of PC games and Mac games to our site (about 200 games for each).
We can work on adding more but there are tens of thousands of PC and Mac games which is no small task to add them all. We will do it if our users are interested, but will spend the time adding other features instead if there isn't much interest.
Leave a comment below letting us know if you are interested in the PC and Mac game sections and if we should add more games to the list.

Halo 3 ODST Should Increase in Value Before May 3

When it comes to getting gamers excited for a new game in a series, there is no company better than Bungie. Their Halo games seem to set new sales records with every new release and they tend to keep their value and popularity quite well.
The next Halo game, Halo Reach, is set to release this upcoming holiday season with promises of new characters, levels, enemies and weapons. Before then, Microsoft plans on releasing a multiplayer beta for the game on May 3. The catch, you’ve gotta have a copy of Halo 3 ODST to be enlisted in the beta.
So what does this mean exactly? We should see the resale price of Halo 3 ODST increase leading into May. We’ll have to check in on ODST in a few months to see if we were right.

Factory Sealed Stadium Events NTSC

There is a factory sealed NTSC version of Stadium Events on ebay right now. The bidding is already at $10,000 and with the recent Stadium Events hysteria going around the auction will probably close much higher.
Let's watch the madness continue. At least it isn't people paying $5,600+ for a PAL Stadium Events. That is true madness when it was selling for about $1,000 less than a year ago.

Stadium Events Version Guide | NTSC vs PAL
There are tons of stadium events auctions on ebay after an auction for Stadium Events and 4 other NES games sold for $13,105. Many of these auctions are for a game that is not that rare!
There is a NTSC Stadium Events which was released in the USA and quickly discontinued and is the more expensive version. There is a PAL Stadium Events too, which was released in Europe and is not as rare or expensive. Below is a buying guide so you know how to tell which Stadium Events version is which and don't get ripped off.

NTSC Stadium Events: Expensive Version
The NTSC Stadium Events is the more valuable and more rare version of the game. It sells for anywhere from $1,000 for just the game and $13,000 for the complete game with the box and instructions. Here's how you tell if the game is NTSC.
1. "Stadium Events" is written on one line on the cartridge
2. Nintendo Seal is a circle on the box and on the cartridge
3. The words on the packaging are always English (some PAL versions are English too)
See historic NTSC Stadium Events prices
PAL Stadium Events: Cheap Version
The PAL Stadium Events is still a fairly rare game and pretty expensive too, but not compared to the NTSC Stadium Events. The PAL version sells for about $100 for the cartridge only to about $1,000 with the box and instructions.
1. "Stadium Events" is written on two lines on the cartridge
2. Nintendo Seal is oval shaped on the box and cartridge
3. The words on the packaging might be in German, Dutch or another language

Wii Games on Sale at Amazon.com

Amazon is doing a sale on Wii games today only, February 16th.
It is part of their Gold Box promotion where every couple of hours a new item goes on sale. Right now Walk It Out is 33% off (I know, not a favorite game among VGPC readers). But earlier in the day Beatles Rock Band was on sale and there are seven more sale Wii games through-out the day.
Hopefully they will have some really good sales later in the day, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sale on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. Please Amazon!

About Atari 2600
The Atari 2600 is a video game console released in October 1977. It is credited with popularizing the use of microprocessor-based hardware and cartridges containing game code, instead of having non-microprocessor dedicated hardware with all games built in. The first game console to use this format was the Fairchild Channel F; however, the Atari 2600 is credited with making the plug-in concept popular among the game-playing public.

Star Wars Ewok Adventures Sells for $1,680
The Star Wars Ewok Adventures Atari 2600 prototype we wrote about last week sold for $1,680 on ebay.
This definitely makes the game one of the more expensive Atari 2600 games, but not the most expensive one by about $3,300.

Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition Is Expensive

In September 2008, EA released a "Ultra Limited Edition" version of Dead Space. They only made 1,000 of these and quickly sold them out at $149 each.
One of these is now up for auction on ebay and is already selling for almost $200. I haven't seen one of these for sale in a long time so it will be interesting to see how high it goes. It is already the most expensive Xbox 360 game at it's current price.
The "Ultra" in the title confuses me a bit. EA didn't make a regular limited edition for Dead Space. Wouldn't this game just be "Limited Edition" instead of "Ultra Limited Edition"? It sounds like an amp that goes to 11 instead of 10.
Either way, next time EA releases a "Super Duper Limited Edition" version of a game I will be sure to buy it.
UPDATE: On February 16th someone listed a sealed Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition for auction and it was purchased within about three hours with the Buy It Now price of $458. The sealed version of this game would definitely sell for more than $450 in an auction.

See Completed eBay Auctions on VGPC
Last night we added a new feature to VGPC that allows you to see a list of completed auctions on ebay without having to leave the site.
You visit any game page on the site (the ones with the price charts and price comparison between stores), for example we used the Chrono Trigger page.
Click the "details" link next to eBay comparison price (see the image below)

What does the Completed Auctions data show

After a short loading time, you will see something similar to the image above with the:
* date the auction ended
* closing price
* the auction number with a link to view that listing
Why use this instead of a search on eBay for completed auctions?
EBay offers a completed auctions search that shows a list of past sales on their site. This can be really helpful for comparison shopping but our tool offers a few things that eBay's does not.
1. 90 Days of Data
EBay only shows data going back two weeks. For vintage games that don't sell very often eBay doesn't show many sales in this short time frame. 90 days worth of prices gives you more data to compare.
2. Faster Access to Prices
If you're already on VGPC pricing your games you can view completed ebay auctions in less than 10 seconds (we are working on making it even faster too). That saves you time compared to visiting ebay, searching, logging in, and clicking "completed auctions" link.
Choose a game and try this new feature out. As always let us know what you think. Do you want to see some changes? Is it helpful for you? We appreciate any feedback our users give us.

Lost and Found Sega Saturn Games
The Lost & Found Series for the Sega Saturn consists of Volumes 1, 2 and 3. These three volumes, each released separately, consist of a total of seven disks that contain games and video clips that can only be played and viewed on a Sega Saturn modded to play CDR discs.
All three Lost and Found versions were made by Oldergames, which no longer makes video games and was sold in 2007 to a company that doesn't seem to be doing anything with the name.
Lost and Found Volume 1
Volume 1, released August 21 2004 at the CGE 2K4 as an exclusive, has a gold-shaded cover. It's the rarest of the three with a limited edition production of only 25 copies. The game contained 2 discs, Project: REBELLION and Saturn FMV Video Vault.
Recently, Volume 1 has sold for $350.

Lost and Found Volume 2
Volume 2 has a blue shaded cover and was released July 28, 2007 at the NWCGE 2K7. It contains two discs, REBELLION FMV Adventure and THREE DIRTY DWARVES Early Development Prototype.
Volume 2 sells for about $75.

Lost and Found Volume 3
Volume 3 released September 29 2007 exclusively at CGE 2K7 and has a purple shaded cover. Volume 3 contained three discs, discs one and two are labelled Deep Fear and disc three is labelled Duck Video Tools Sega Saturn Demonstration Disc.
Volume 3 sells for about $45.

None of the three volumes came with a user manual or any other sort of operating instructions. Each multi-disk volume was packed in a DVD case and each volume had a full cover. The front covers depicted a photo of the Sega Saturn and the production number of the enclosed set of disks. The back cover of each volume included screenshots of some of the content and some printed information about the included content.
Information and photos for this article were provided by Gary P. Doughty. Thank you for the contribution Gary.
