Price Index for All Major Retro Consoles

You might have noticed charts like this on some of our video game pages. We created price indexes for every major retro console so you can see where prices for each console are headed on average.

The picture above is not interactive, but you can visit the Nintendo NES, SNES, Atari 2600, or Sega Genesis (along with others) to try the interactive charts.

You can read more about how the indexes are calculated. We will be rolling out indexes for more consoles in the near future.

Please let us know what you think of this feature by taking the survey below:

This is a cool feature, but why are the pricing scales for each graph different? Atari is on a $2 scale, $1.50 for the NES, $1 for the SNES and 64, and only $0.60 for the Genesis. I think it would be more helpful if all the scales were the same.

@anonymous - Great comment and question. The prices are on a different scale to better show the price fluctuations and show current average prices for each console.

The average NES game is $9.30 while Genesis is $5.75. We could adjust the indexes so they all start at $10 but then people would not be able to see the average price of a game.

We could also show the prices on the same scale but keep the average prices, but then price changes for lower priced consoles would be hard to see.

If other users think it would be more helpful to show console indexes with the same starting price, please let us know. We can make that change if enough users think it would be more beneficial.
