Super Mario All-Stars Is Being Re-Released March 13th

Super Mario All-Stars is being re-released March 13th! Everyone who couldn't find the game the first time are in luck.

As we discussed several times on this blog, Nintendo has decided to re-release the game. Amazon and Gamestop have the game available for pre-order with a shipping date of March 13th.

The price of the original release is already dropping less than 24 hours after the announcement. Yesterday prices were over $50 and now used copies can be found for around $40.

Do you know if there will be any noticeable difference between the original release and the re-release (packaging, label, etc.)? It would be interesting to know if the original release would technically become rare because of it being re-released with some sort of change in packaging.

@Commodore Computer Club - All the sites that show the game available for pre-order have the same cover art as the original. I don't know if there will be any difference at all, but we will probably have to wait until it actually comes out.

@JJ Hendricks: Thank you for the reply. I'm thinking Nintendo will probably use the same cover art with the re-release, that way they don't put out any extra money and keep profits high for them, but like you said, we shall see once it's released again.

what a shame. was hoping this wouldnt be re released. So much for being a potential rare collector item

If they don't print too many copies this print run, it could still stay somewhat rare.

@anonymous - There is definitely a chance the game will still be rare after the re-printing. We will have to see how many they make.

There is also a chance the artwork will be different (but I wouldn't count on that) OR the game disc itself might have some differentiating mark.

If you look on the backside of a Wii disc you can see some letters and numbers stamped into the disc. This might be different on the reprinting.

Collector's might not care enough about this difference, but it might be a way to tell the original from the second printing.

wasnt the last one release on dec 12th, 2010?
if they are reprinting them for march 13th, 2011
the reprints might say 2011 on them instead of 2010

@anonymous that's actually a really good point to raise but who knows what they will do

who know the second print run might be more rare than the first. Making the second print more valuable maybe?? I also have multiple copies of the first print run and was very disapointed to hear of the re-release.

Eh idk if it'll make a difference most re-sellers won't tell any difference I saw a reprint yesterday and it looked exactly like the old one and it also had no distinguishing marks or whatev but I also didn't see the disc

so does this version differ at all from the original release??

So far I haven't heard of any differences. I wasn't lucky enough to get one of the original released versions so I can't personally compare, but I plan to buy both versions so I can let every know know as soon as possible.

I've seen a few forum threads about this now, and it appears as if there is no difference between the two games at all. There is no way to tell if you have the original or the reprint so there is no value difference.
