Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes Becomes Rare

Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes has become a rare collectible in the matter of months. The game has always been a relatively expensive game as you can see from the chart below. Selling for about $20-25 used for most of last year. But in the last six months MGS Twin Snakes has increased in price every month and now sells for about $53 used and $124.99 NEW.
MGS Twin Snakes Price History
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes Cover ArtWhat caused Twin Snakes to become such a collectible so fast and will it last? The release of Metal Gear Solid 4 probably helped ignite interest in the Metal Gear series again which increased demand. The game didn't sell very well so there aren't many copies available to meet this new demand. But the price increased nearly 150% from January 2008 to today. That is much bigger than previous sequel price increases we have seen like Grand Theft Auto and Pokemon.

This price spike is more than a temporary increase because a new game comes out. I think collectors have decided for some reason that this is a game they want for their collections. This kind of increase will keep prices high for the foreseeable future.

Damn, that sucks. I remember seeing multiple copies around my area, & Bam! can't find it anymore at all. At the time when i checked the site, it was around $30 & i hesitated to buy it thinking it might just have been a small flux in the price. Probably around the time it was ringing for around $50 that there were 0 copies laying around EBs,microplays, pawn shops, etc. I feel like such a sucker now.

Right now, there is one for auction on www.gamegavel.com starting at $74.99 Sealed. A lot lower than the $125 max tag on this game! I have been contemplating buying it, with the value up so much it might be a good investment. Although, it could just be an artificially inflated price too!

I just bought a used copy from GS 2 weeks ago for $35. I had the chance to get one for $20 just a year ago. Its interesting to watch prices go up as it's happening.

Looks like this price spike caught us all by surprise. I sold mine more than a year ago for about $20.

I had bought a few of these as used rental copies (but complete) from Blockbuster for 9.99 this spring. Check your local rental stores, but I doubt that people are still passing it up.

You would have to prise my mint PAL copy out of my cold, dead fingers. If I get wind of a PS3 MGS1-3 collection, it will go straight on ebay...but until such a time, no chance. Same for my mint copy of MGS3 Subsistence.
