The "$13,000 NES-001" on Storage Wars

The TV Show Storage Wars follows four teams of professional buyers as they purchase repossessed storage units. They buy the units and then see what is inside and how much it is worth.

A recent episode featured a super rare "Nintendo NES-001". If your thinking to yourself "aren't all NES systems NES-001. That isn't rare." - you are right.

One of the people correctly remember an auction on eBay for $13,000 that included a system and five games, but apparently thought it was the system, which sold tens of millions of copies, and not the extremely rare boxed Stadium Events that made it so expensive. Oops.

See a list of some NES games that are actually rare and valuable or a list of the 12 most valuable games of all time.

Saw this today too on the basically rip-off show Storage Hunters:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YggNQLCYhY8
(skip to 14:25 minute mark) pretty funny that their expert appraising is just flipping it over and if they see a '1' it means it's the first ever and that equals very rare and valuable lol Do they just pulls these values off the top of their head?

Anonymous said...

thanks for the tips here cuz i had no clue, but that prick on storage wars had me looking around for my oldschool nintendo es... guess what.. "NES-001" too! and ive got EIGHT games! ahahahaha i must be one lucky gal. pppffft! i wish i checked this forum before i tore apart my house looking for the fucking thing. Thanks for nothing mark ya fuckin tool.

Anonymous said...

@1-14-12: yeah, I tore my house up too.....that was much easier than watching the end of the fucking show! Dumbass!

Anonymous said...

Just watched this and checked. The guy is a total idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He got$10, hahahahah

Anonymous said...

Hey, if one deck with five games and no wires or controllers is worth $13k, I'll sell mine with 98 games, all cords, half a dozen various extra controllers, and 4 player adapter for a mere $15k. Any takers?

I seriously laughed my ass off when I saw Mark claim that piece of junk was worth that much though. At best, if he breaks the thing up, he might get $20 for the shell and RF shields on the parts market, on a good day.

HaHaHa, my friend collects old school NES systems/games/controllers/accessories, not for the money just for a collection, and I was like WTH this guy is a retard, there is no way, I gotta google this sheet

Anonymous said...

The game is Stadium Events, it preceded Nintendo's Track Meet. It is valuable because Nintendo pulled them from the shelves & destroyed the copies when they purchased the rights to the running pad.

San Burrito Season 2 Episode 8

Anonymous said...

Funny how over a year later people are still commenting after they watch the show. Lol

Anonymous said...

I had to tell my tv that it was wrong today, as I collect old school video games and neatly facepalmed when Mark priced his sticky NES at 13K. I have a couple of those too, Mark. Neither one of us is getting rich off of them anytime soon.

Anonymous said...

I saw this and laughed my ass off. I love it when guys step into my gaming realm. The two clowns could not tell you the difference between a NES or a Turbo Grafx 16. Leave the systems and games to the true gamers and collectors. Next time you may not look like idiots.

Anonymous said...

That show is 100% fake anyway. Its all staged, like most shows of it's kind.

Anonymous said...

Ignorance is bliss. This is a guy that made one, maybe two appearances on the show and was known for being a doofus. He thought it was worth $13K out of pure ignorance, then at the end of the episode someone told him it's worth $10. Of course, most commenters here like to OMIT that last part since they believe what they choose to believe.

"woowwww!! everyone who ran off to find their nintendo after watching the show is just as dumb as mark" After watching this show, literally zero people ran to their NES to check the model number. I hate selective, deliberately misleading journalism like this. JJ, I expect better from you.

JJ Hendricks said...

@anonymous - Thanks for your comments. I personally have spoken with at least 10 people (non-collectors) who said they heard about a "Super rare Nintendo console that sold for like $13,000".

Friends of mine who are not collectors know what I do so they bring it up quite often because they want to know if I've heard of it. People who do not eat, sleep, and breathe video games have no idea what something is worth. Just like I have no idea what antique lamps or vintage watches are worth.

Mark from Storage Wars committed suicide a few days ago.

JJ Hendricks said...

@anonymous - I read yesterday that Mark had committed suicide. Sad to hear it.

Anonymous said...

You realise that guy Mark is now dead . Man do you now look the dumbass for your stupid comment .

Anonymous said...

Yea and u ppl should b ashamed sitting here talking bout Mark like hes here to defend himself!! I hope he did get 13k for the nes and all u guys got rid of urs thinking it was worthless!! That would b a Laugh & a Half!!!

JJ Hendricks said...

@anonymous - Almost all of these comments were prior to Mark's death in February 2013.

Secondly, his death is sad, but that doesn't change the fact that what he said about the NES-001 was wrong.

I have said many incorrect things in my life. Someday I will die and those things will still be wrong.

Just because someone passes away does not mean people can no longer say that a statement they made was wrong.

Anonymous said...

I have the 6th NES system ever made and it isn't even worth a lot....but I sure as fuck make it worth something..
My daughter and I play it all the time..lol

Kro said...

lol. i had someone give me an ole school NES at my work. and upon that i recalled that same show and the guy saying it was soooo valuable. i flipped it over and there it was, NES-001!!! i almost did back flips right there. needless to say the rest of the work day dragged by slow as possible cause i wanted to get home and look it up. then i found this thread. :D i would have liked to see the episode where mark tried to sell his $13,000 NES. im sure he made an even bigger fool of himself trying to sell that damn thing for 13K. lmao!!!! anyway, thanks for the info here on this thread. saved me a little grace trying to hustle mine for thousands.

Anonymous said...

I seen the same show. did the same thing everybody else did. but I guess we have to wait another 20 years before. it's worth anything. some people do make mistakes and I believe he was one of them. and we all need to move on

Unknown said...

Still available? if so I will definitely take it all and I'll give you $20 :-D ...my kids love to play the NES and I cannot find our controllers anywhere and they think its so cool because their mom used to play it when she was their age lol

Unknown said...

Damn. Still have this for sale? I'll give you $30

Yo Mamma said...

Pfft, you look like a dumbass for posting that stupid response.

Unknown said...

Hahahahahah I just saw it now like 8 years later damn now I can say the prices on these games are going up real high. Iam a collector and I pay hundreds of dollars for these games but cause I like to play them and collect them and I will pass them down to my kids when they are old enough.

Season 2 Episode 8. .."San Burrito". Just watched this episode on 5/1/23 and about lost my shit when that tool, who was already overvaluing everything he was pulling out of his purchased locker, said 001, look for 001, and then claims it's worth $13,000 because of one that sold for that much. A quick, and I mean 30 second investment of time on the Googlemeister proved that whatever is going through that guys mind is akin to unicorns and leprechauns. Avg seeking prices ranged between $17 and $160, with the number of games included being the difference. That's only $12,840 off the mark! Horseshoes and hand grenades right? *SPOILER: The appraiser set him straight when he said anything that could sell like that would have been unused, unopened and or a special unit given as a gift by the makers themselves. His big find wouldn't power up and was give a price tag of $10 for parts! 😂
