Sell 270+ Games in Less Than 3 Months on PriceCharting: Tips from the Seller

JonsGames joined PriceCharting 3 months ago to sell some of his game collection. In less than 90 days he's sold more than 270 games on PriceCharting with almost perfect feedback.

What's his selling secret?

Place User Name in Every Photo in Every Listing

Every single listing JonsGames posts includes a photo of the actual item AND his user name written on a piece of paper. Most listings have multiple photos. The photo helps buyers know two things.

* Buyers can see exactly what they will be getting.
* Buyers know the seller actually has that game in his possession (photo wasn't taken off the internet).

Both of these reduce buyer's fear/risk of being scammed so they are more likely to buy.

Sell with Low Prices

Almost every item JonsGames sells is priced around 90% of the market price.

PriceCharting doesn't charge any marketplace fees so JonsGames saves money compared to other marketplaces. He passes almost all of those savings onto the buyers. In exchanage JonsGames sells more stuff.

Buyers are always looking to find a deal. PriceCharting has tons of collectors with games/cards in their wishlists. We notify those users when a seller posts an item for sale with a good price. Using discounted prices puts a listing in front of more eyeballs and often leads to sales minutes after posting the item.

Give Great Customer Service After the Sale

JonsGames says his philosphy as a seller is the golden rule. "Treat others the way you want to be treated".

He's bought games online before. He knows what he likes as a buyer. So he does that for his customers.

He:

* Ships quickly (usually the same or next day)
* Communicates frequently by uploading tracking, emailing if there is a delay, etc
* Fixes any problems when they happen. Mistakes inevitably happen. When they have he's fixed the problems quickly so the customer was happy.

JonsGames says he's received emails from buyers "thanking me for giving them the chance to relive there childhoods and play with there kids and to me that’s worth more then the cash."
Great customer service leads to repeat buyers and great feedback ratings. Great feedback gives new buyers even more confidence to buy.

I personally want to say "thank you" to JonsGames for making PriceCharting marketplace a better place to buy/sell with fellow collectors and mom-n-pop stores.

You can see JonsGames current listings and give his games a great new home.

Rare Stadium Events being Sold in Descending Price Auction

The PriceCharting Marketplace has a feature letting users list a game as descending price auction. The price goes down until someone buys it.

I'm selling my rare Stadium Events in a descending price auction to familiarize everyone with how they work.

Bidding starts at $13,000. Then every hour the price drops by roughly $12. The price keeps dropping until someone buys it.

Why Descending Auctions?

Descending price auctions are good for buyers and sellers for a couple of reasons.

  • Items always available: Buyers don't have to wait until a specified ending date and time to know if they won or not. If they like the price now, it is available immediately.
  • Reserve price is built in: There is no hidden reserve price where you're highest bidder, but don't win. The seller sets a minimum price they will accept. The listing automatically approaches that and then stops decreasing.
  • Market price reached: Its hard to know the market price for some items. Stadium Events only sells a couple times a year and the exact condition can change the value a lot. An auction quickly reaches market value.
  • Less maintenance time: Seller don't need to continually update their listing with different fixed prices to help their items sell. List it once and the marketplace automatically lowers prices for you.

Predict the End Date and Time & Get $50

If you can't afford to buy Stadium Events, you can guess when the auction will end. The closest guess will win $50 to spend on the PriceCharting Marketplace.

Guesses close 2/18/16. The winner is closest overall, doesn't matter if you are over or under.

Good luck.

Easier Tracking and Shipping Notifications on the Marketplace

The PriceCharting Marketplace automates shipping and tracking notification and storage for buyers and sellers.

On your sales history page, you click 'mark as shipped'.

Top game was shipped. Bottom game still has 'mark as shipped' link

You are then taken to a page to mark the item as shipped and upload the tracking number.

Form to upload tracking number and mark as shipped

Tracking numbers are optional, but including one is +1 to your marketplace reputation.

The shipping date is always the date you click 'mark as shipped' so update this information as quickly as possible after you ship. This ensures timely communication between seller and buyer.

The tracking number and shipping date are always displayed on the listing page for any item you buy or sell.

Date shipped and tracking example on listing page

Buyers are emailed a shipping confirmation with the tracking number immediately after you update the status.

Hopefully this feature makes it easier for buyers and sellers to communicate with each other and see the status of their transactions in one central location.

PriceCharting Launches Free Video Game Marketplace

video game marketplace
Today, PriceCharting launched a free video game marketplace.

That's right. No listing fees. No selling fees. No buying fees.

The only fee is for payment processing but that doesn't go to us.

What makes our marketplace different than eBay or Amazon:

  • No fees - that's a pretty big one
  • Always free shipping - every item on the marketplace ships for free
  • Objective conditions - sellers use conditions like 'brand new', 'writing', 'torn label', etc instead of 'good', 'acceptable', etc. You can filter results by these conditions.
  • Know what's included - sellers choose exactly what is included, 'game', 'box', and 'manual'. You can filter results by what is included.
  • Making a listing is fast - it takes about 45 seconds to make a listing (75% less than than ebay)

For now the marketplace is only available to US buyers and sellers. We plan to add Canada in the near future and other countries after that, but we don't have an exact timeframe for this expansion.

You can search for a game to buy or you can browse all the newly listed games too.

Try the marketplace today.

If you like the idea of a free marketplace, please let other people know about it. A marketplace only succeeds if lots of people use it. Otherwise fees win :(
