The original Xbox stopped production in 2005 and since then some of the hundreds of Xbox games have become rare and sell for quite a bit to collectors. Even some of the not so rare games can still fetch high prices if they are popular enough and backward compatible (every game on the list but 1 can play on the 360). Below is the list of rarest and most expensive Xbox games and what makes them so valuable.

Steel Battalion is a Mech game that was sold with a large specialty controller. The controller tried to replicate being inside a Mech and had nearly 40 buttons. Because the controller was so large the game retailed for $200 and only limited quantities were produced. The initial production was close to 2,000 units but the game was re-released, adding a few more copies to the market.

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis you have to recreate the Jurassic Park theme park by creating dinosaurs, building rides, and attracting guests. Just like the movie, the dinosaurs can attack the guests if you don't take appropriate percautions. The game also features action missions that are separate from the theme park simulator.
The game is very uncommon but the exact reason for its limited availability is unknown. Jurassic Park received mediocre reviews but its rarity makes it expensive.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy includes GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas in one package. In the GTA series of games you play as a character in an gang-land environment and must complete missions like stealing cars and killer rivals. The game is completely open so you can spend hours doing anything you want and not even complete a mission.
The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy wasn't released until November 2005, the same month the Xbox 360 launched. Most retailers quickly dropped support for Xbox titles after the 360 launched so the game was never fully supported at retail stores.

Sniper Elite was released on the PS2 at the same time and neither version sold very well, but the Xbox version is the rarer of the two. The game is entirely based upon stealth and using long range weapons. The sniping is more realistic than most FPS games because it takes into account wind, your breathing, and even gravity's effect on the bullet.
The game is not very expensive in loose condition, but very expensive and rare when brand new.

Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is a fighting game. It is very similar to the Super Smash Bros series of games, but includes Digimon characters instead of Nintendo characters. Like the main line Digimon games, your Digimon can digivolve into more advanced characters.
Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is the last of the Digimon fighting games and is one of the most expensive games on GameCube and Playstation 2 as well.

Teen Titans is an action game based off of the Teen Titans TV series. You play as teen versions of comic book characters from the DC Comics universe - Robin, Cyborg, Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy.
Teen Titans was released on Xbox in November 2006. This was a full year after the Xbox 360 launched and hardly any retailers were actively promoting Xbox titles. As as result, the game was produced in limited quantities.

Like the GTA Trilogy, Halo Triple Pack is a bundle of games sold as one package. It also came out too late in the Xbox's life to get full retail support. The Halo bundle includes Halo 1, Halo 2, and the Halo 2 Map expansion.
All three Halo's are backward compatible with the Xbox 360 which helps keep up demand. It was also released a month before Xbox 360 launched.

The Guy Game has you play has you answer trivia questions and as a reward see woman in bikinis. As you answer more and more questions correct, you eventually see topless live action video.
The nudity in the game led to its rarity. Four months after it was released a woman in the game sued the studio saying she was 17 at the time and the game was illegal. A judge filed a restraining order and the game could no longer be sold.

Jedi Knight Academy sold quite well and there are quite a few copies available, but the game is very popular with Star Wars fans and received very good review scores. You play as a student at the Jedi Academy and complete missions assigned to you by Luke Skywalker and other Jedi. The game also has a network multi-player mode so you can compete with other Jedi in training.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a role-playing game. On the PC Elder Scrolls III received two expansion paks, Tribunal and Bloodmoon. The Game of the Year release for Xbox included the main game and other two expansions.
The Elder Scroll games for Xbox 360 continue to sell very well and there is lots of demand for Elder Scrolls III. This is the only way to play these two expansions on the Xbox, which helps increase demand even further.

Gauntlet Dark Legends is a action, dungeon crawler published by Midway. You play through different stages and try to unlock treasure and kill the enemies in order to get to the end. There are some RPG elements and it allows up to four player coop.
Dark Legacy is a great party game with the four player coop. The exact reason it is so rare is not known but fewer than four new listings will sell in a year, which makes it quite rare.

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction is a demlotion racing game published by Atari. You compete in demolition derbies and other races and try to advance in the circuit. There are several multi-player modes as well including deathmatches and capture the flag.
Eve of Destruction was only released in the PS2 and Xbox and it fairly expensive on the Playstation 2, but not quite as much as the Xbox version.

Star Wars Battlefront II is an action game published by LucasArts. You play various missions that loosely follow the events in the Star Wars universe. You can use different weapons, troop types, and vehicles like AT-AT's depending on the mission and objective. The game is very popular in multi-player.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 sold very well on the PS2, but not quite as well on the Xbox because the 360 launched the same month. In 2007, 2008, and 2009 it was one of the most played games on the Xbox. This is the last Battlefront game made for a console. High demand for the game continues to keep prices high.

OutRun 2006 is a racing game published by Sega. It is a re-imagining of the first OutRun game with modern graphics. You compete in a series of races in the main race mode, but can also complete mission modes that require you to pull off certain maneuvers.
The game was released in March 2006, four months after the Xbox 360 launched. It was not backward compatible with the 360 until 2007. Sega didn't print many copies of the game because consumers had moved onto other consoles.

IHRA Drag Racing Sportsman Edition is a racing game. You race as different models of cars in many different locations. Like most racing games now, you can customize your car with different parts to change the look and performance.
IHRA Drag Racing was the third drag racing game for the Xbox, but it was released in June 2006 and people were no longer buying original Xbox games with the 360 on the market.
