Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Map Pack Price Breakdown

We here at VGPC always want to give you guys the best pricing info we can. So with the release of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs tomorrow (March 30) on Xbox 360 we thought we'd break down the pricing for you.

The Stimulus Map Pack will cost you 1200 MS Points, or $15, and you'll get 5 maps. We will assume here that each map is of equal value, even though two of the maps are from the first Modern Warfare. So here's the breakdown.

$15 / 5 maps = $3 per map

There are 16 maps included with the retail Modern Warfare 2. So we can assume this:
$3 per map * 16 = $48 for all maps in the retail game

Considering the MSRP of Modern Warfare 2 is $60 that leaves us with this:
$60 retail price - $48 for retail maps = $12 remaining

That only leaves us with $12 for the rest of the content on the retail disc. Modern Warfare 2 is separated into three parts: Single Player Campaign, Spec Ops, Multiplayer.
$12 / 2 modes remaining = $6

That means, based on the Stimulus Map Pack pricing, the Single Player Campaign and Spec Ops only cost $6 each. Either that's a heck of a deal or $3 a map is a little too high.

In the end it's your choice to buy the Stimulus Map Pack or not, but from our standpoint it seems a little high for the amount of content you're getting.

Also keep this in mind, the map packs for Call of Duty: World at War cost $5 less last year.

Travis - I've always thought add-on content was too expensive. Way to break it down to see exactly how much it all costs.

$15 for 5 maps, two of which are duplicates from a previous game, seems like way too much to pay. And they only cost $10 for the previous game.

Map packs are pure profit for the company. Increasing prices online effects which new sports car they are going to drive.
